Balloon Rides

For a couple of years, Funchal had a panoramic balloon that climbed 150 meters to show visitors a different perspective of the wonderful city, bay and the surrounding areas of Madeira.

With capacity for approx. 30 passengers, this sight seeing attraction also comprised a museum at its base, showing the history and traditions of the island, a café and a lower floor providing support to sailing, jet skiing, volleyball and windsurf clubs.

The balloon started operating in June 2004 was a great success with both locals as well as visitors to Madeira, especially for those who only have a few hours on the island when their cruise liners made a stop in the most beautiful port of call in Europe!

Unfortunately, during an unseasonable storm in March 2007, the balloon was damaged beyond repair and has ceased operation.
