Madeira is becoming more and more attractive and easier to explore for those who decide to visit the island.

After the cable car to the famous village of Monte, the new cable care at the Botanical Gardens, linking this highly popular tourist attraction with the charming village of Monte, is fully functioning since September 2005.

Now the village of Monte has not only one but two cable cars!

The first, already existing, makes the connection between Funchal and the charming village of Monte on a very pleasant sightseeing trip, while the new cable car, consisting of 12 cabins, each with 8 seats, takes the visitors on about 14 unforgettable minutes (round-trip) on a new panoramic route with extraordinary views of the Funchal bay and over the River of João Gomes, an area of rare exotic beauty comprising an important nucleus of Laurissilva forest.

An additional asset of this new cable car is that it also provides a faster access to the levada walks of Tornos, Bom Sucesso and Curral dos Romeiros, which are very popular with keen walkers.

During the first two months of its opening, the Botanical Gardens cable car has already transported more than 6,000 people, in majority tourists. In the light of this success, the managing company decided to provide promotional tickets, combining the ride in the cable car with a visit of the Botanical Gardens, which will be available soon.
