Capela dos Milagres
The present structure dates from 1815 and is located where the first church on the island was built, the same place where Robert Machim and Anne of Bedford are said to be buried.

In 1803 a flood destroyed the initial church of 1420 but miraculously the crucifix was found later floating on the high seas. Therefore a new chapel was built and named ‘Capela dos Milagres’ (Chapel of Miracles), and every year, on the 8th of October, Machico celebrates the return of the crucifix with a procession.
