Capela de Nossa Senhora da Piedade
This chapel is located in the parish of Caniçal, high on a steep rock, hanging over the sea. The legend tells that sailors had built this chapel to fulfil the promise they had made to the Holy Virgin who they believed had miraculously saved their boat from being crushed on the rocks.

For this reason every year the fishermen of this parish celebrate the ‘Festa de Nossa Senhora da Piedade’ (Feast of Our Lady of Mercy) to renew their vote.
