• Quinta do Palheiro Ferreiro, Funchal

This property, belonging to the Blandy family, boasts some of the most valuable and rare exotic plants on the island.

The Blandy family acquired the Quinta in 1885 and the following generations devoted themselves to the continuous development of the gardens so that today it is considered a Mecca for all botanic lovers.

Especially to to look out for is the splendid Camellia selection, which you will be able to admire to its full extent during the main flowering season between November and April. These were planted by the first owner of the Manor House, the Conde de Carvalhal, and there are tree plantations with about 200 years! Although they are found 500 meters above sea level, there are plants that have adapted here to the coolest and often humid weather because of the fog in the area.

Apart from beautiful gardens, a baroque chapel and a magnificent manor house from the 18th century the Quinta do Palheiro Ferreiro also offers excellent views over Funchal city. Because it is part of a private property, there is an entrance fee.
