Lobo Marinho

The maritime connection between Madeira - Porto Santo has long waited for better conditions, faster journeys and higher quality. That time has now arrived. The Porto Santo Line company which has a monopoly on the connection between the two islands, has invested (along with funding from the European Community and the Regional Government) in a new ship that, some say, is similar to a mini cruise liner.

On its inaugural cruise to Funchal's harbour, Lobo Marinho was followed by numerous smaller boats and jet skis, whilst hundreds of people lined the waters edge of the harbour all wanting to see the new "Madeiran Pride" closer. The ship with a capacity for 1153 passengers now makes the journey between the two islands in two hours, cutting an hour off the previous boat's time.
