World's best island destination award given to Madeira

Madeira has received the award for best island destination in the world at the 2015 World Travel Awards.

These awards aim to distinguish the best that exists all over the world in the tourism sector.

Madeira was ranked higher than destinations, such as Bali (winner in 2014), Crete, Barbados, Mauritius, Saint Lucia, Sardinia or Sicily. The help of Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined this cause, appealing to the vote through social networks, seems to have contributed to this award.

Madeira had already competed and won last year, in the category of best island destination in Europe.
