• Rocha do Navio Natural Reserve

We have to be grateful to the local population for the introduction of the laws creating the Natural Reserve of Rocha do Navio in Santana, in 1997. They noticed that the coastal area was fast deteriorating because of illegal fishing with explosives - a practice that caused severe damage to the marine life.

So the idea of creating a multi-purpose nature reserve was born, with the objective of protecting the marine fauna, preserving nature and enhancing the vast tourist potential of the area.

This reserve is one of the most scenic beauty spots on the northern coast of the island and is located between Ponta de São Jorge and Ponta do Clérigo.

The access to this Reserve is done through Miradouro da Rocha do Navio, by a pathway, or by cable car. Hunting and the use of nets are completely forbidden.
