Rancho Cable Car

The cable car at Rancho (near Cabo Girão) is open since August 2003. It started as a means of transportation for farmers who had a hard time when it came to bringing their crops all the way up to the top. There are two cabins with 6 seats each connecting Rancho and Fajãs do Cabo Girão.

At Rancho you will find a restaurant and snackbar serving typical dishes like the 'espada' (black scabbard fish), the 'picado' (traditional meet dish) or the 'polvo de escabeche' (one of the many possible preparations of octopus). If you book a day in advance you can also try the delicious Brazilian specialties, which they also offer.

Mainly crop fields and a very nice beach that you can see from the viewpoint of Cabo Girão occupy Fajãs do Cabo Girão. Descending by cable car to this wonderful place may be a daunting experience for those impressed by heights, but the beach is definitely worth a swim. So close your eyes and wait until your cabin reaches the bottom.

Rancho is located at Estrada de Santa Clara - Rancho de Cima and opens everyday (Sunday - 09.00 to 19.00 h; Monday - 08.00 to 09.00 h and 17.00 to 20.00 h; Tuesday to Friday - 08.00 to 19.00 h).
