Calheta Beach began receiving the necessary yellow sand reinforcement on Monday, June 12, 2023.

With the start of the summer season, the municipality of Calheta, west of Madeira Island, is preparing to welcome holidaymakers and, as such, has begun to replenish the yellow sand of its two beaches all along the council's waterfront area.

Due to the entire transport operation and aggregate placement, this beach, which is much sought after by tourists and local bathers alike, has its west side off-limits to the public at the moment.

The yellow sand, which originally came from Morocco, is being collected from various beaches on the Portuguese mainland, and the ship that transported it only arrived last week at the Madeiran port in Caniçal.

The work should be concluded this week, and you can follow all its evolution through our live Calheta Beach Webcam.
