National Geographic is forming specialised guides to offer a differentiated route for those looking to get to know unique places on Madeira Island.

The company 'Costa Cruises' will be the first to visit Madeira in the upcoming summer of 2023, with the presence of local specialised guides trained by National Geographic (NG). Once on land, these guides will accompany tourists and take them on selected routes and carefully chosen destinations, aiming to provide them with the best possible experience.

It will be a completely different experience from what tourists usually encounter on regular itineraries, as these excursions, bearing the National Geographic seal, aim to offer the most authentic aspects that a locality and region have to offer. Therefore, there are aspects that are mainly of a cultural nature that often go unnoticed in the mainstream "commercial" circuits that are already overloaded and mass-produced.

And there are already several tourist destinations that will benefit from these "NG" guides, such as Italy, Spain, Greece, Croatia, the Canary Islands, and, of course, Portugal with its Pearl of the Atlantic, the island of Madeira.

On the other hand, Costa Cruises recognises that this type of offer is (purposely) aimed at small groups of explorers, as it results from a partnership with NG, and as such, is obviously concerned with the sustainability of the planet. Hence, part of the profits made from these excursions will revert to the National Geographic Society, which, in turn, will help fund research and sustainability programmes that NG sponsors all over the world.
