The Funchal Jazz Festival will be breaking loose during the 1st – 5th at the Auditorium of the Municipal Garden (Jardim Municipal) on Avenida Arriaga and from the 6th – 8th July at Parque de Santa Catarina, and promises to be an unforgettable experience. With the bay of Funchal as its backdrop the event, which boasts of being one of the most significant cultural events in Madeira, has hosted some of the biggest names in the business on its open air stage, including Esperanza Spalding, Cassandra Wilson and Arturo Sandaval.
This year's artists at Jardim Municipal will include Laura Silva (July 1), Rafael Andrade, 'Electric Miles'(July 2), André Santos, 'Vereda' (July 3), Madalena Caldeira Quarteto (July 3), Francisco Lopes Plays Pat Metheny(July 4), Luís Caldeira Group (July 4), and Paps Curso Profissional Instrumentista Jazz (July 5).
Emmet Cohen, who will headline this year's event at Santa Catarina Park, will be joined by Superblue: Kurt Elling & Charlie Hunter (July 6), Sexteto Bernardo Moreira 'Entre Paredes', Samara Joy (July 7), Perico Sambeat & Orquestra De Jazz do Funchal, and Terri Lyne Carrington's New Standards (July 8).
The concerts in the Parque de Santa Catarina cost 15 euros per day and 35 euros for three days, while admission to the Municipal Garden is free. Tickets are usually available at FNAC (Madeira Shopping), Worten Stores, MEO Stores, Parque de Santa Catarina and Teatro Municipal Baltazar Dias.
