• Madeira Summer Astronomy 2023

The peaks of the island of Madeira are privileged places for space observation, and next Saturday, the 12th of August, astronomers from this Atlantic island have a programme not to be missed.

There is nothing better than being on top of a volcanic island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean to observe the stars clearly, and even better is doing so in the company of astronomers who can explain to us what is being observed.

So, with the high patronage of the Municipality of Funchal, the Ecological Park of Funchal, and the Ciência Viva programme, the Association of Astronomers of Madeira will carry out, this coming Saturday at Pico do Areeiro, at an altitude of approximately 1800 metres, another stargazing session.

In addition to stargazing, the programme also includes a lecture entitled 'The Perseids', in which astronomer Alexandre Gomes will explain everything he knows about this meteor shower that occurs in the Perseus constellation.

Participation in this programme has a cost of 2 euros (for individuals aged 10 and above), and those interested will need to pre-register on the “Ciência Viva” website.

Live Science in the Summer “Ciência Viva no Verão” began on July 15th and will run until September 15th, 2023, and for more interesting activities, see the list of summer actions (search Madeira district).
