• Madeira Rum Festival

Madeira Rum Festival, now in its 6th edition, shall be starting this Tuesday afternoon, April 16th to 21st. Due to the success of previous years, the event shall have a longer duration and a larger venue, among other novelties.

The event is organised by the Instituto do Vinho e do Artesanato da Madeira (IVBAM), which promises this year's Madeira Rum Festival "six lively and dynamic days", where the public may find an "informal atmosphere, with irreverent decoration and constant music".

The event, which kicks off this afternoon at 4 p.m. at Placa Central da Avenida Arriaga, in downtown Funchal, will be attended by five Madeira Rum producers - Engenhos do Norte, Sociedade dos Engenhos da Calheta, Engenho Novo da Madeira (William Hinton), Florentino Izildo Ferreira (O Reizinho) and Vinha Alta - who will have the opportunity to promote and advertise their rums, which "present unique characteristics and qualities", guarantees the organization.

As in previous editions, this year's event will focus on workshops that will be run by various international figures, "references in the world of world rum", of which "the North-American Kara Newman (author of seven books on cocktails and distilled spirits critic for Wine Enthusiast magazine) and the British Ian Burrell (the only Global Ambassador recognized in the world for the Rum category) and Peter Holland (Rum reference brands ambassador and Blogger)" stand out, and as we can see, all these are bold bets made by the IVBAM with a view to internationalizing this product "made in Madeira".

It should be pointed out that the Festival will also present "two masterclasses on Madeira Rum & Chocolates and one on Madeira Rum & Cigars", two initiatives led by Rubina Vieira, and Américo Pereira, accessible by prior registration through the following e-mail address: This email address is being protected from spambots.
