The traditional "Monte Wicker Basket Toboggan Rides" that descend through the centre of Funchal and end their journey in the downtown area of the city have had their prices updated.
This is a major tourist attraction on the island of Madeira, attracting thousands of visitors throughout the year to the parish of Monte and then enjoying a thrilling descent to the Livramento area aboard these small traditional cars made of wicker, pushed, controlled, and directed by two elements known as "carreiros".
The entity that manages these transports, the Monte Carreiros Association, has updated its price list, and the new price list that began to be practised in early July 2023 now charges 27.50 euros for the individual ticket (+2.50 euros) and 17.50 euros per person in cases where there are additional occupants in each "car". The cost of double tickets, previously priced at 30 euros, has increased to 35 euros. Tickets for three passengers, which used to cost 45 euros, will now cost 52.50 euros, respectively.
