Funchal is a city that offers beautiful architecture from different centuries. Colonial architectural examples (1400s-1800s) can be found in the Old Town, namely São Tiago Fortress, and in other areas of the city, such as Pico Fortress, São Lourenço Palace, Sé Cathedral, Municipal Theatre Baltazar Dias or the Jesuit College and Church. Several government buildings also reflect this type of architecture, like Funchal's Town Hall, the Palace of the Governing Board and the Regional Legislative Assembly, the latter being a good example of how antique and modern architectural styles go well together.
