Whale Museum, Caniçal

Located in Caniçal, the Whale Museum, which first opened its doors in 1989 and then moved to a new building in 2011, tells the history of whale hunting and industry in Madeira.

This innovative museum displays a valuable collection that includes utensils, whales and dolphins in life-size models and 3D movies, thus depicting whaling experiences throughout the 20th century.

Scientific research projects are also promoted by this institution with the aim of protecting marine life, in general, and cetaceans, in particular, around the archipelago.
