• Automobile races depicted

The new book shows images of automobile races in Madeira, which took place between 1930 and 1949, in a research work sponsored by a private business group. 

Next Wednesday, April 26th, the Regional Secretariat of Tourism and Culture, through Madeira's Regional Directorate of Archives and Library (DRABM), presents to the public, at 5:30 p.m., at the Alberto Vieira History Studies Centre's auditorium, the book "Car Races (between 1930 and 1949)", number 13 of the collection Madeira - Photographic Memories. The regional secretary of Tourism and Culture, Eduardo Jesus, will be present at the event. 

The press release sent to the press office today underlines that this edition was sponsored by the 'Socicorreia' group and stresses that the publication discloses "unpublished images that represent automobile races in Madeira in the 1930s and 40s of the 20th century".  

According to the same source, "the photographs come mainly from the Perestrellos Photographos and Foto Figueiras archives, which belong to the collection of the Madeira Photography Museum - Vicente's Atelier, on deposit at the Madeira Archive and Library". 

And adds that "Madeira has a documentary heritage of rare relevance in the panorama of the History of Photography in Europe, resulting from the activity of several photographers, professionals and amateurs".
