Although the famous Cabo Girão viewpoint is no longer free, its popularity has not diminished.
Tourists continue to want to visit one of the most stunning and emblematic places on the island of Madeira, which has the second-highest promontory in the world.
The viewpoint of Cabo Girão is situated 580 metres above sea level, and those who visit the location never forget the experience as it is truly "breathtaking", with a unique view of the sea and slopes of this marvellous Atlantic island.
Due to the high demand and in order to discipline access to the site, since March 2023, the regional authorities have started to charge the entrance (2€ for adults), whose revenue has generated an average of € 5,000 per day, sums that partly revert to the maintenance of the mentioned viewpoint, which has registered over 300,000 entries since then.
It is important to note that people with disabilities are exempt from payment upon presenting medical proof. Additionally, children (up to 12 years) and residents do not have to pay to access the site.
