The famous popular Christmas festivities that take place every year all over Madeira Island around the local markets of each municipality, the so-called "Noites do Mercado", will be held this year between the 9th and the 23rd of December 2023.
The municipality of Santa Cruz which this year was ahead of all the other municipalities in Madeira, as far as the Christmas lights are concerned - which already started being switched on last Friday - will also be the first to celebrate the "Market Night" already on the 9th of December.
Between December 15 and 16, the weekend before Christmas, it is time for the municipalities of Santo da Serra (Santo António da Serra) on the 15th, and on the 16th for Ribeira Brava, Machico, São Vicente and Santana to celebrate the pre-Christmas event.
On the 22nd December, the municipalities of Câmara de Lobos and Calheta will host the "Market Night" with lots of musical entertainment and the famous stalls with regional gastronomy products.
Finally, the Market Night in Madeira's capital city, which takes place on December 23rd, is undoubtedly the most popular and well attended of all the "Nights", bringing thousands of people to the streets of downtown Funchal, providing an unforgettable atmosphere of festivity and Christmas fun, with special focus on the Lavradores Market, an event that starts in the late afternoon and lasts until the early hours of the morning.
