After the fires of 2016 the Regional Government stated that it was imperative for Madeira to have an aerial firefighting capability to protect the island ad minimise the destruction of property, vegetation and most importantly, loss of life.
The Regional Civil Protection Service (SRPC) recently announced that the initial selection process for Madeira’s first response firefighting helicopter team is now underway. The role requires candidates to have attained level 3 Emergency Fire Fighting Operational skills and have a minimum of three years’ experience.
The final twenty successful candidates will be split into two categories, front line and reserve. The aim is to create a forest fire intervention firefighting unit that can be deployed throughout Madeira from June this year.
