The Wine Festival is something special; it marks an important date in the Madeira’s cultural calendar. This year the organisers of the Madeira Wine Festival have created something a little different; three free Historical Dance (Danças com História) shows to commemorate the ‘600-year Celebrations of the Discovery of Madeira and Porto Santo’ between August 31st and September 3rd. Each show comprises of a brief lecture on the dances of either the 15th or 17th – century, and then a practical lesson.
The first event will cover the 15th century and take place on the 31st of August between 10:30 – 13:00 at the São Lourenço Palace, Funchal with the second, on the 1st of September from 10:30 – 13:00at the Pico Fortress, Funchal covering 17th-century dancing. The island of Porto Santo will be hosting the third event which will cover 17th-century dancing on the 4th September between 10:30 – 13:00 at the Porto Santo Cultural and Congress Centre.
