We may have said goodbye to the dazzling firework displays of June, but July’s events calendar is anything but dull. On the 1st of July Madeira comes together to celebrate Autonomy Day. And with this, the island's festival calendar rockets into life beginning with the very energetic and entertaining Regional Folklore Festival, which takes place in Santana during the 7th – 8th. The event comprises of regional and international dance groups who participate in a 24-hour danceathon. Of course, dancing wouldn’t be complete without a side order of local food, drink and of course entertainment.
Open Air Funchal Jazz Festival at Parque de Santa Catarina on 12th, 13th and 14th. The famous Limpet Festival "Festa da Lapa" takes place in Paul do Mar, between the 13th – 15th comprising three nights of entertainment, good food and of course grilled Limpets. If limpets are not your thing, the annual Banana Festival during the 21st – 22nd in Madalena do Mar will allow you to enjoy this tasty regional product.
For the more athletically inclined Porto Moniz holds its very popular annual Sea Week from the 23rd - 29th including both sporting activities and competitions. Also, the Island Bike Tour takes place during the 27th – 29th using routes to suit cyclists of all levels. And to wrap up the month’s events, Machico will be holding its Gastronomic Week between the 27th July – 5th August, which includes concerts, sports competitions and their renowned cocktail festival.
