It’s fun, funky and fantastic! It has to be February and its Carnival Season! The month starts in style with the Wedding Fair ‘Funchal Noivos e Festas’ taking place between the 7th and 9th at the Pestana Fórum Casino. It’s a must for anyone planning their honeymoon or thinking about having their wedding blessed here on the island. The anticipated fashion shows include both national and international designers. And with romance in the air, the island captivates lovers from all over the world and is the perfect place to celebrate Valentine’s Day on the 14th. With its beautiful scenery, romantic boutique hotels and charm, this is a lover’s paradise.
Lively entertainment abounds with the Compadres Festival between the 15th and 16th. Not only does it herald the opening of carnival, its fun-filled atmosphere also makes Santana the place to be.
Of course, February wouldn’t be February without carnival. Taking place between the 19th February and the 1st of March, carnival is one of Madeira’s unforgettable moments with parades, themed parties, street entertainment and of course that all-important carnival parade on Avenida do Mar on the 22nd. All the evening’s entertainment will be broadcast live on the Funchal Marina Live Webcam. Avenida Arriaga plays host to several events from the Children’s parade to the senior citizen Solidarity procession, allowing everyone to have a good time and enjoy the festivities. Finally, it’s the turn of the Trapalhão (Slapstick parade), which takes place on Tuesday the 25th giving everyone a chance to dress up again and entertain the crowds. However, it’s not just the capital that explodes into light, merriment and entertainment as on Sunday the 23rd many of the islands principal towns including Câmara de Lobos, Ribeira Brava, Santa Cruz and Porto Santo Island will be holding their official carnival parades.
