• Madeira Island Sup Challenge

Madeira Island Sup Challenge (MISC) is a Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP) race, which as the name implies, takes place in the Pearl of the Atlantic, in the Atlantic Ocean, an island located about 900km from the Portuguese capital, Lisbon.

The Madeira Island SUP Challenge was publicly presented this afternoon at the Clube Naval do Funchal, the organiser of the event. There are 70 athletes from 11 countries that are mobilized for the race next weekend, including the world champion who will also participate, as well as other competitors from the world elite that are all keen not to miss this race of the 'Grand Slam' because it is part of the European circuit, the Eurotour.
This is an international SUP competition that will take place on 27 and 28 May at the Centro Náutico de São Lázaro.

Recovering a bit of the history of the race, recall that the first edition of MISC took place in the year 2017, in the city of Funchal, the capital of the island. "Over the years, the event has grown and its competitive format (marathon) has remained to the liking of the participants", a race "in open sea" that "offers a lot of adrenaline and exceptional conditions for this practice", adds the organization. Also according to the CNF, "the air and sea temperatures around 20 to 25 degrees Celsius, in sea that is usually flat, with little waves, allow a diversified competition in terms of physical demands to the participants".

The marathon race has a course of about 13km "for the more experienced sportsmen and sportswomen", while for young beginners and amateurs the distances are "nicer".
