• Madeira certifies products and farmers

Farmers of anona, sweet potato, cider, curd cheese of regional production of superior quality, were recognized yesterday by the project "Madeira Rural Table" of the Regional Government of Madeira, which invested 148 thousand euros in this program.

This is a bet of the Regional Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development, which aims to distinguish producers of the island, which are noted for presenting regional products with high quality. In essence, the executive intends to seek that farmers reach the level of excellence in their productions.

Another aspect of Madeira Mesa Rural, is to seek to publicize these high class Madeira products, through various means of promotion, using, for example, the Internet and social networks, where promotional videos of regional products that enjoy European Union quality systems of recognised quality will be disseminated.

The official presentation of this program, took place yesterday, Wednesday, with the delivery by the Regional Secretary of Agriculture, Humberto Vasconcelos, of 44 certificates to participants in training courses developed by the 'Madeira Mesa Rural 2022'.

It is also worth mentioning that several digital contents have been produced, including five promotional videos about agricultural and agro-food products from the Pearl of the Atlantic, which already benefit from the European Union quality systems: Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), Designation of Origin (DO) and Geographical Indication (GI), such as: "Madeira custard apple PDO", "Madeira sweet potato DO", "Madeira cider IG" and "Madeira cottage cheese IG"," adds a local newspaper. According to Diário de Notícias, this project "also included a video about the AgroSenseLab and its fundamental role as a tool for valuing regional products by evaluating the quality and authenticity of the products".

Finally, the 'Madeira Mesa Rural' project is supported by "PRODERAM 2020", the Rural Development Program of the Autonomous Region of Madeira supported by the EU.
