Breathtaking, demanding, exhausting and exhilarating the Madeira Island Ultra Trail is due to set off on 27-28 of April 2024. The event, which is split into four categories, MIUT (115km), ULTRA (85km), MARATHON (42km) and MINI (16km) will have a total of 2,487 competitors starting from various locations within Madeira and has a truly international feel with entrants from the U.K, France, Sweden, Lithuania, Canada, U.S.A and Spain taking part.

The MIUT will commence at 00:00, taking a gruelling course from Porto Moniz to Machico. The race comprises of night and day runs, with competitors traversing a variety of demanding routes with only headlights to guide them until dawn rises over the mountains. These runners will be tackling some of the toughest terrain this island has to offer, as they run across the central mountainous section from Porto Moniz, covering Paul da Serra, Pico Ruivo, which is the highest ascent at 1700m (5,578 feet), Ribeiro Frio, and Portela before descending through Degolada, the Larano footpath, and finally finishing in Machico. The goal, to complete the course in under 13 hours! Making the MIUT one of the most intense and exhilarating races in the world as runners tackle a wide range of topographies with varying levels of difficulty and it no surprise that the Madeira Island Ultra Trail (MIUT) attracts so many athletes worldwide.

This is not about taking part; it's about finishing the race, whether fast or slow. Everyone wants to be, as the organisers say ‘A Finisher!’
