• More passengers traveling to Madeira

In the past month of June, passenger traffic at the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira grew by 6.0% year-on-year.

The data revealed earlier this week by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira indicate that the two existing airports in the Madeira Archipelago (Madeira and Porto Santo) registered a movement of 416.9 thousand passengers (+6%), which in turn were transported in 2,842 aircraft through commercial flights (+2.9%).

If we compare these figures with the month of June 2019 (pre-pandemic period), a higher growth was observed, in the order of 36.0% in passenger traffic and 25.2% in aircraft movement.

According to the data collected by ANA (Aeroportos de Portugal), which was subsequently provided to DREM for analysis, the variations in aircraft and passenger movements were 19.5% and 30.3%, respectively, in just the first semester of 2023. Thus, each aircraft transported an average of about 153 passengers to Cristiano Ronaldo Madeira International Airport (FNC) (148 in June 2022) and close to 100 passengers to Porto Santo Airport (PXO) (98 in the same month of the previous year).
