The city of Funchal will have within two years a new public car park located in Praia Formosa, and above this park, the largest public garden in the city of Funchal will be born.
The interventions of the Funchal City Hall, which plans to invest around 3 million euros in the rehabilitation of Praia Formosa, aim to requalify a 10,000 square meter piece of land, "which will be transformed into an underground park with 280 parking spaces, covered with a garden," and with a car park "100 meters away from the beach, with a pedestrian connection to the maritime area," said a government source to the Madeira Daily News.
Thus, the public garden that will be above the car park and next to the promenade of Praia Formosa, will be one of the "largest parks in Madeira with about 40 thousand square meters", said the President of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque.
In his turn, the Mayor of Funchal, Pedro Calado, guaranteed that the area of Praia Formosa belongs to the Madeirans, and that despite the private investments in that area, the beach and the surrounding areas will be "of public and free access to the beach".
According to the leaders, the intervention in the promenade of Praia Formosa, which connects Funchal and Câmara de Lobos will be completed by June, and within two years the car park and the aforementioned public garden will be completed.
