• Fonte da Areia Porto Santo

The requalification works at Fonte da Areia, on the island of Porto Santo, are progressing at a good pace and should be completed by next September.

This is a very popular spot for those visiting the beautiful island of Porto Santo, which is just a three-hour ferry ride from Madeira. The 'Fonte de Areia' is a true landmark of the 'Golden Island,' as it is also known, due to the colour of its extensive sandy beach with medicinal properties. The site of the intervention holds a great wealth of geological formations (and landscapes) that recount the history of the island and reveal its antiquity through its magnificent cliffs.

As the access to Fonte da Areia was not in good condition, the Regional Government of Madeira decided to intervene and proceed with the requalification of the entire area, which includes a viewpoint that is a "must-visit" attraction.

In addition to this redevelopment, the Madeira government is making other investments in Porto Santo, such as the construction of affordable housing for young resident couples, the repaving of some road arteries, improvements to the island's port, and work in the urban park. Another major project underway on the island is the construction of the new Local Health Unit, a crucial development for the healthcare needs of the local population and service to visitors in general.
