The Portimão – Funchal – Canaries Ferry is back. This year the Naviera ARMAS Volcan de Timanfaya has been hired to operate the weekly schedule from the 7th of July to the 25th of September. The ferry arrived in Funchal harbour on the 8th of July at 08:15, later leaving for Portimão at 10:30. The Volcan de Timanfaya entered service on the 2nd of October 2004 and is a passenger RoRo ship who can carry 1,000 passengers, 300 vehicles and has 56 cabins.
Leaving Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Sunday evenings at 20:00, the Volcan de Timanfaya arrives in Funchal harbour on Monday morning at 08:15. After a two and a quarter hour turnaround, the ferry then departs to Portimão (Algarve) at 10:30, where she arrives on Tuesday morning at 11:00. On leaving Portimão at 14:00 the ship returns to Madeira docking in Funchal harbour at 14.30 on Wednesday afternoon. Departing Madeira at 17:00 on the same day, the boat returns to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria reaching her destination at 06:00 Thursday morning.
