August has to be one of the most eclectic event months on the calendar with its homage to the islands patron saints, folklore festivities and of course celebrations to honour the island's wine and food. Madeira roars into life for the Madeira Wine Rally on the 3rd – 5th while Lameiros in São Vicente celebrates its annual Nossa Senhora da Saúde festival. Of course, no one should miss the ‘Nossa Senhora de Monte Festival’ between the 14th and 15th. It is one of the major religious festivals of the year. During the month there are several gastronomy festivals; Câmara de Lobos will be celebrating the renowned Black Scabbard Fish (Festa do Peixe Espada Preto) between the 10th – 12th while the town of Caniço will be holding its annual gastronomy festival from the 17th to 21st. However, the most significant event on the gastronomy cultural calendar has to be the Machico Gastronomic Fair which takes place from the 27th of July to the 5th of August bringing together some of the best local cuisines. Ponta do Sol hosts the International and National Folklore Festival on the 25th. In addition, Santa Cruz will be showcasing a myriad of short films at its Friday night Film Festival evenings, while Art Camacha 9th – 14th dedicates itself to the cultural traditions of the parish as does São Vicente with its Festas do Concelho, dedicated to showcasing its local customs between the 22nd and 25th. Lastly and no means least the Madeira Wine Festival and myriad of attractions takes place from the 26th to the 9th of September.

All that’s left to say is ‘let’s get the party started!’
