Further along the road from Funchal through Câmara de Lobos and up into the mountains you will arrive at Cabo Girão, often considered the highest sea cliff in Europe. Standing on the glass skywalk of the viewpoint is quite a breathtaking adventure. The view is incredible and certainly more enjoyable (for those who are afraid of heights) once you retreat from the cliff's edge.
With the renovation works completed in October 2012, besides better road access, shops, a café and a tourist post, the area of the lookout point was enlarged beyond the existing iron railings with a transparent glass walkway similar to that at the famous Grand Canyon, giving visitors an unforgettable experience and stunning views over the cliff.
