With free access, Praia do Vigário, a pebble beach south of Largo da República, in the centre of Câmara de Lobos, is one of the main beaches of the municipality.
Until early 1970s, this beach area was part of the daily routine of most inhabitants of Câmara de Lobos, especially fishermen, who prepared their gear for fishing black scabbard fish. Extracting sand for construction and washing and drying clothes were some of the other daily activities of the local population.
