Rua da Carreira, Funchal, Madeira

Initially a suburban area with a predominance of agricultural properties, this street suffered several changes with the time passing by but kept many of its original buildings with architectural elements from the 17^th, 18^th and 19^th century.

Rua da Carreira is one of the oldest streets in the city of Funchal, and its name comes from the fact that there were horse races on this street. Many famous personalities, from painters to writers, from journalists to politicians, lived once in this street. Today you will find here many nice shops and some popular restaurants.
