Praia Formosa Beach, Madeira Island

The beach Praia Formosa, situated in the capital Funchal, just 10 minutes drive from the city centre, offers visitors four beaches with a mix of sand and pebbles: Praia Formosa, Praia dos Namorados, Praia do Areeiro, and Praia Nova. If you’re more the adventurous type, try to walk on the rocks. But be careful, because sometimes they get tricky and you may be swimming in the water even before you feel like it!

In the summer, this beach attracts all kinds of sea and beach lovers, not only because of the sea and the sun, but also because of the sports activities, contests and nightlife that it offers. The water quality is certified by the ‘Blue Flag’ and a team of lifeguards is watching over the safety of the bathers.

Among the many facilities, you can find a first aid station, a playground for children between 2 and 12 years old, changing rooms, snack bars, restaurants, several areas for sports practice, and a car park.
The oceanfront promenade offers an ideal setting for leisurely strolls, providing access to the charming fishing Village of Câmara de Lobos or the vibrant Lido area via the Doca do Cavacas tunnel. As part of a complete renovation project, this area will see the building of a new hotel, the installation of a public park, and the introduction of several restaurants, cafés, and attractions.
