The first thing you will probably notice when arriving at the picturesque village of Ponta do Sol is the beautiful pebble beach, protected by a small cove. If you want to have something to eat or enjoy a glass of wine, there is a narrow street with several pleasant open-air esplanades. That street also leads to the centre of the village, where you may visit the 15th-century Nossa Senhora da Luz Mother Church, as well as John dos Passos Cultural Centre, a complex with exhibit rooms, a library and an auditorium, which was founded in honour of this renowned writer, descendant of Portuguese immigrants from Madeira.
