• Achadas da Cruz

Achadas da Cruz is a parish situated on the island’s extreme northwest side, in the municipality of Porto Moniz, whose main economic activities are agriculture and livestock. Handicraft products, especially wickerwork, help to increase the traditional feeling of this rural area.

While in this parish, we suggest you visit the Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Livramento and Padre Câmara garden, but the main attraction is the cable car at Calhau das Achadas, which takes you in an incredible journey from the mountain towards the sea, arriving at Fajã da Quebrada Nova. Once down there, we would advise you not to swim due to the rough sea and huge rocks. The cable car is also often used by those who want to return after descending Vereda do Calhau. Among other interesting walks are Quebrada do Negro, Quebrada Nova and Levada do Moinho.
