On this live webcam feed of the waterfront, you can also see the People's Square (Praça do Povo), one of the main meeting points in Funchal city centre, and from where you can enjoy wonderful views, celebrate New Year's Eve and watch the fireworks.
Parque de Santa Catarina and Avenida do Infante are two highlights on this camera.
Santa Catarina Park is a great place for an evening stroll and a lovely location from which to watch the sun rise over Funchal Harbour. There are many old trees and attractive plants here; on still days the heady aroma of exotic flowers fills the air.
Avenida do Infante is the road on the right, which goes along the park and connects to Estrada Monumental.
On the right-hand side of the image, you can also see the façade of La Vie shopping centre, as well as a view over the hills towards Pico Fortress (aka St John the Baptist Fort), which was built in the early 1600s in response to pirate raids. It offers excellent views over Funchal and has a small museum.
