Created in 1998 the original Andebol club was originally known as Académico Funchal until it changed its name to Madeira Andebol S.A.D and is located at the Pavilhão Gimnodesportivo do Funchal. After entering into a partnership with C.S. Maritímo, the club is now known as Académico Maritímo Madeira Andebol S.A.D.
The women’s team has led the honours by winning the Portuguese Championships sixteen times, the Portuguese Women’s Handball Cup and the Supertaça de Portugal seventeen times. The male team has won the National League and the National Cup once and made various European Handball Federation appearances.
