Luis Fernandes is a Trail Runner athlete born in Câmara de Lobos, Jardim da Serra, he started Trail Running and Skyrunning in 2012. He was asked to become a member of the National Team at the World Trail Championships held in Spain in May 2018, coming 40th in the 85km race, making him the second-best ranking Portuguese runner in the competition.

He won the Madeira Island Ultra Trail in 2015, the first Madeiran to do so, which was especially important as it is one of the toughest trail running races in Portugal. He had a successful 2017 season finishing 2nd in the KM Vertical Madeira North Coast 3200m competition, 18th in the 170km Ultra Trail of Mont Blanc UTMB race, came 2nd in the 22km Porto da Cruz Trail Race, 11th in the 115km Madeira Island Ultra Trail 2017, finished 10th in the 55km Madeira Ultra Skymarathon and came 25th in the 70km Ultra Skyrunning High Trail Vanoise race.
