• LOBO MARINHO - PORTO SANTO LINE

The most popular connection between Madeira and Porto Santo has always been by sea. This maritime line has been operated by Porto Santo Line company since 1995, which has a monopoly on the connection between the two islands.

In 2003, the company invested (along with funding from the European Community and the Regional Government) in a new ship, similar to a mini cruise liner. On its inaugural cruise to Funchal harbour, in June 2003, Lobo Marinho was followed by numerous smaller boats and jet skis, whilst hundreds of people lined the waters edge of the harbour all wanting to see the new "Madeiran Pride" closer.

The ship with a capacity for 1150 passengers and 145 cars makes the journey between the two islands in two hours and 20 minutes, cutting an hour off the previous boat's time. The trip is comfortable and pleasant, and the ship offers bars, restaurant, game room, cinema, amusement area for children, tobacco store, gift shop and a 1st class area.

If you are going to rent a car during your stay in Madeira, it might be useful to know that you can also take your vehicle on this ship. Should you prefer a quick trip to Porto Santo, you can choose a one-day cruise.

But if you don’t like to travel by sea, you can always go by plane, with departures from the Cristiano Ronaldo Madeira International Airport
